Be sure to look for us in the SaPaDaPaSo Parade this Monday in downtown Cedar Rapids.  With the weather forecast calling for cooler temps, the elders will probably stay on the bus during the parade.  But be sure to wave from the crowd so we can see you! The date of the Easter Egg Hunt is currently set for Saturday, April 12th at 10am.   This event is for children ages 0-12.  Be sure to let your family members with little ones know about this fun event.   It is free and open to the public.  We do ask that people pre-register if possible but it is not necessary.  Pre-registration helps us get an idea of how many children in each age category will be attending.  The elders will be busy in the weeks before this stuffing eggs with lots of candy.  We recommend bringing an Easter basket to haul…

Hello everyone. I just wanted to thank everyone again for all their help with the Easter Egg Hunt. The elders did a great job stuffing the eggs with candy. We had some left over because we didn’t have quite as big a turnout as we have had in the past, so the elders and care partners got to enjoy some candy this week! Yum, but hard on the waistline! We have gotten some really positive reactions to the pictures we took of the elders who live in The Garden. Thank you to Carol Ruggles for the use of her hats and scarves and thank you to all the staff who helped bring out the inner models in our elders. I think everyone had a good time that day. It’s been a great conversation starter! The elders look beautiful (or in the case of the gentlemen, handsome) and the black and…

Thanks to all who came to our 6th Annual Easter Egg Hunt. It was a great success and we couldn’t have done it without a lot of help. Thanks to all the staff who helped get the elders where they needed to be for the hunt and for helping to hide eggs, thank you to the elders who helped stuff hundreds of eggs the week before and helped hide eggs that day, thank you to all the volunteers for all your help, and finally, thank you to all the parents and grandparents that brought their children to the Easter Egg Hunt. Look at our page on Facebook to see pictures from the Hunt. I am trying to get them on the photo gallery on the website too, but have run into some difficulties so bear with me until I can get them figured out.

Hey everyone. We have started the job of stuffing eggs with (lots of) candy for the upcoming Easter Egg Hunt. The elders work hard filling the eggs for the hunt and are rewarded for their volunteerism with some of the candy. The Easter Egg Hunt is open to the public and is on Saturday, March 31st from 10am-12pm at West Ridge. Registration starts at 9:30am. There are three age categories: 1-3; 4-7; and 8-10. Call Julie Winterboer at 319-390-3367 to pre-register or if you have questions. You can also talk to Crystal, our receptionist, or Kellie or Emily in Activities. The hunt will be held indoors so we don’t have to worry about the weather. We look forward to seeing many of you there! Volunteers are still needed to help with this event so please let Julie Winterboer know if you can help.

I should blog at least once a week so I am sorry if anyone has been waiting for a new post. We got the software needed to put the newsletters on our website (instead of have our web designer do it for me) so that is my next project. Please be patient as this particular process is new to me. Yesterday and today the elders chose to scrap our scheduled morning activities so we could all cheer on the Hawkeye basketball team. We did a good job yesterday with Walter being our head cheerleader and they were victorious. Today, not so much. We tried to cheer just as hard but it wasn’t in the stars apparently. Today we also had some fun setting some brooms up and watching them stand on their own thanks to all the solar activity going on. The Truman students came today as well. It is…
