– Press Release – West Ridge Care Center Recognized For Quality Management

West Ridge Care Center has been recognized as a 2014 recipient of the Bronze National Quality Award from the American Health Care Association (AHCA) and National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL). This is the second commendation this year for West Ridge, who received an overall quality rating of 5 Stars from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) in June. The awards mark the progress the Cedar Rapids care center has made in their plans to improve the overall quality of their facilities, staff and patient care.

The Bronze National Quality Award is the first of three distinctions given by the AHCA/NCAL to long-term care facilities in recognition of their commitment to quality improvements. The award is aimed at helping those centers achieve their performance goals and continue to develop a systematic approach for further improvement.

“I applaud West Ridge Care Center for its commitment to delivering quality care”, said Mark Parkinson, President of AHCA/NCAL. “The award represents the dedication that each Bronze recipient has given to improve in the long-term and post-acute care profession.”

West Ridge is among 390 centers in the United States and 14 in the state of Iowa chosen to receive the Bronze award. It will be presented to the Cedar Rapids care facility early this October in Washington D.C at the AHCA/NCAL’s 65th Annual Convention and Exposition. More information about the award can be found at http://www.ahcancal.org/quality_improvement/quality_award/Pages/default.aspx.

Like the Bronze Award, the 5 Star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service also recognizes excellence in senior care. CMS rates its nursing homes based on their staffing and quality measures, in addition to a health inspection. In a breakdown of their overall 5 Star ranking, West Ridge received 5 stars for its overall staffing, 5 for its RN staffing, 3 for quality measures and a 4 for its near perfect health inspection. Further information about the CMS rating system can be found at http://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Provider-Enrollment-and-Certification/CertificationandComplianc/FSQRS.html.
