5 Stars!

If you did not notice our banner out front, I am very happy to report we have restored our overall quality rating to 5 Stars! The 5 Star Ratings of nursing homes is how the Centers for Medicare rate nursing homes in the country. The Quality Measure (QM) rating is posted on the Nursing Home Compare website monthly. The score is based on MDS 3.0 quality measures using data from the second, third, and fourth quarters of 2013.  The quality measures are based on our patient population and the type of patients we admit. We scored 4 stars for our near perfect health inspection, 3 stars for quality measures based on the MDS assessment,  5 stars for overall staffing, and 5 stars for RN staffing. This is an awesome achievement for West Ridge and our staff. We strive for quality every day and it is an ongoing process. Our quality assurance team is committed to continued quality improvement and we’ve been working on action plans /goals to continue to the next step in our journey.  Please feel free to stop in and discuss any concerns or ideas for quality assurance team. - Katie

West Ridge Rehabilitation and Care Center in Cedar Rapids recently received approval from the State of Iowa to provide Outpatient Therapy Services to patients who complete their rehabilitation through West Ridge’s short-term residential skilled care and therapy program. “Patients often ask our therapists ‘can you follow me home and do my therapy?’” says Richard Curphey, Administrator at West Ridge, “With this new designation our physical, occupational and speech therapists can help see the healing process through, from start to finish.” West Ridge Rehabilitation and Care Center provides skilled care, rehabilitation and short and long term care, including dementia care to Elders. They are the only Eden Alternative registered facility in the Corridor, a philosophy committed to preserving the dignity of life through interaction, integration of nature, pets and strong relationships.

April Happenings

Hello everyone. I just wanted to thank everyone again for all their help with the Easter Egg Hunt. The elders did a great job stuffing the eggs with candy. We had some left over because we didn't have quite as big a turnout as we have had in the past, so the elders and care partners got to enjoy some candy this week! Yum, but hard on the waistline! We have gotten some really positive reactions to the pictures we took of the elders who live in The Garden. Thank you to Carol Ruggles for the use of her hats and scarves and thank you to all the staff who helped bring out the inner models in our elders. I think everyone had a good time that day. It's been a great conversation starter! The elders look beautiful (or in the case of the gentlemen, handsome) and the black and white make the pictures even "classier". Soon we will be stuffing button envelopes for the Freedom Festival. We like any way we can help give back to our larger community. If anyone knows of any service projects we can help with, please let me know
